About this event

North-East Hants and Surrey Maths Hub are running a FREE Work Group for teachers of Maths GCSE resit.

The Work Group will explore effective ways of teaching key content to GCSE resit students and effective ways of working with teachers of post-16 resit GCSE. Participants will, through collaboration and experimentation, deepen their knowledge and understanding of the curriculum demands of GCSE Maths and their awareness of pedagogical approaches that best support students taking GCSE for the second time. Participants' departments will, through shared good practice, become more effective at teaching GCSE resit, for example by wider and more confident use of teaching approaches such as bar modelling, multiplicative reasoning or realistic contextualisation. Provision will also be influenced by understanding the unfolding support that will be required for transition to the post-16 environment with awarded grades rather than examination results.

The programme will consist of 3 sessions (two online and one face-to face) with intersessional tasks.

  • Session 1: Monday 30 November 2020 - 3:00pm - 5:00pm via ZOOM
  • Session 2: Monday 25 January 2021 - 3:00pm - 5:00pm via ZOOM
  • Session 3: Monday 8 March 2021 - 9.30am - 3:00pm at St John the Baptist School, Woking, Surrey GU22 9AL.

Participants are expected to attend all sessions and to complete intersessional tasks.

All attendees will be added to an NCETM Basecamp online community for this Work Group in order to access resources and information for the Work Group.

As with all our Free or Funded Maths Hub Work Groups and programmes, we are funded by the Department for Education and therefore have to prioritise State Funded schools.  If spaces are still available we are able to offer these to Independent schools, however we will need to charge fees and these will be advised separately.
